Radio Hargeisa 101.5FM
Radio Hargeisa was founded in 1943 by the British colonial authorities. It is owned and controlled by the government of Somaliland (since 1991 when the country declared its independence from the rest of Somalia). The station is the only station permitted to operate in Somaliland and is based in Hargeisa.
The station acquired a 100 kilowatt transmitter in October 2012 that allows the station to broadcasts internationally. The station previously operated on a FM frequency that was limited to broadcasting in Hargeisa only.
The station broadcasts 10 hours per day in three segments. It is on air during the following periods: 06.30-09.00, 13.00-16.00 and 18.00-22.30.
It broadcasts mostly in Somali, but also has news bulletins in English, Arabic and Amharic.
