Radio Xamar also referred to as “The Voice of Democracy” was founded in July 2004. It is located in Yaaqshiid district of Mogadishu. Radio Xamar is privately owned and receive small funding from the US National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and other incomes from advertisement.
It has 25 employees (7 trainees/volunteers) and broadcasts in Mogadishu and surrounding areas for 18 hours a day.
The former Director Abdirahman Yasin was among the three journalists killed in the Village restaurant suicide bombing in September 2012.
